At night, specific palms and frangipani trees are highlighted with spotlights - it’s just like a fairyland believe me. So relaxing and quiet.

We also love interacting with the staff, they are so friendly and can help organise virtually anything. They cooked our meals and did our laundry - better than a hotel, but much much more intimate. The Balinese are beautiful people and this is a wonderful way to experience something different and interact with the locals.
Sure, there may be many villas available, but we’d highly recommend Villa Poppy to anyone mainly because of its atmosphere and its location. Both times we’ve stayed there, we’ve felt like it really was our own home and settled into the lifestyle in no time at all.

We’ve paid US$200/night both times for a week, but I think they’ll discount depending on the length of stay. It works out to be about $35 per person per night, if you have 6 people staying there which is excellent value. Main House (Heliconia)
Otherwise known as Heliconia, the main house is situated on higher ground to take in the sweeping views. Directly leading up from the stairs of the restaurant, it overlooks the swimming pool and has all the comforts of home. This three-bedroom house can be entered via the dining area/kitchen or via the two beautifully carved wooden doors on the veranda.

The veranda overlooks the pool and rice fields directly in front, to the left a large concrete water fountain and to the right a lovely tropical garden. Enjoy reading or having a drink while you lounge in comfortable chairs or sit or lie on a bench. Beautiful carved wooden windows on both either side of the door add an elegant feature.

The lounge area has a range of seating options from rattan chairs to a comfortable cushioned bench. A delicately carved wooden coffee table rests on a turquoise rug and a TV sits on a wooden cabinet providing entertainment for guests. Tucked into a corner of the lounge is a small bench with sink to enjoy a tea or coffee without having to go into the kitchen.

The only accommodation within the complex that has its own kitchen, meals can be prepared for guests within this setting. Well equipped, it has a fridge, microwave, small oven and hotplates, kettle, toaster, crockery, cutlery and pans sufficient to provide a delicious meal for a number of people. The wooden dining table can accommodate eight and is surrounded by 8 bamboo chairs.

The main bedroom is huge and located downstairs beside the lounge area. This bedroom has it all, views, AC, writing desk and chair, large LCD TV, two wing backed comfortable chairs tucked in a corner and a large king sized bed. The en-suite bathroom, is equipped with a single basin and mirror, toilet, bath and rain shower with hot and cold water. A wardrobe is located just off the bathroom and has ample room for clothing to be hung and folded.

The remaining two bedrooms are upstairs and once more capture the views. These rooms have twin beds and are again large and comfortable with couches and chairs to relax in. Both rooms have wardrobes within, AC’s, TV and all the necessary comforts of your own home. Both en-suite have single basins and mirrors, toilets, bath and indoor showers and offer hairdryers.

Should urgent contact with the outside world be required the complex has WIFI throughout.

Balinese Pavillion (Lotus)
The Lotus villa is quite unique. It features the ambience of a traditional home in the village and has four buildings facing the directions of North (utara), South (selatan), East (dangin) and West (dauh).

On entering the large carved doors one encounters to the right corner a Lumbung (where rice was stored). To the left is one pavilion where the traditional outdoor kitchen and toilet are located. The kitchen features a wooden style fire where ceramic pots are used to heat up food and water. Two clay sinks and a large clay water container are opposite to the heating area. A wall divides this area with another and a low sitting, white washed, rectangular table rests on a white tiled floor for food preparation or can be used to sit and eat. To the left of this kitchen is an undercover, outdoor toilet with hand basin and mirror.

A small temple sits diagonally to the kitchen area and is used for daily offerings.

Within this villa there are two more structures, open style gazebos that face one another. Within the gazebos are two daybeds or sleeping beds for use, however that’s where the similarity of the traditional, Balinese village home ends.

The last pavilion facing the kitchen pavilion is where the main bedroom is located. Two large lotus pots grace either side of the veranda area that has chairs to sit and enjoy the surroundings.

As one enters the one bedroom pavilion more luxurious items, such as an AC, TV and a large, king size canopy bed, with delicate mosquito netting decorating the sides, is seen. A wardrobe and decorative wooden bench seat are also available for use. The en-suite bathroom has both a large tiled bath and an outdoor shower, single basin sitting on a marble counter top and toilet all undercover.

This setting is an excellent way to gain an understanding of the Balinese culture and as it is a large space, could also make an excellent location for a wedding or just be enjoyed more privately, as a honeymoon villa.

Cottages
There are four garden cottages in total. Two, Lily and Frangipani are located between the Balinese villa and Joglo and the other two, Jasmine and Gardenia are located further down the hill.

Lily and Frangipani Cottages

Overlooking tropical gardens and the stunning rice fields due to their higher level vantage point, these two wooden cottages are identical.

Beautiful lacy, carved, wooden doors frame the entry from the veranda. Sitting in the chairs provided, one can absorb the natural beauty that surrounds you.

These one bedroom cottages have king sized beds, AC’s, TV, dressing table and chair as well as a writing desk, chair and lamp tucked in a corner. In a recessed wall, a built in seat contains a mat and cushions to sit upon and read. The en-suite bathrooms feature terrazzo bathtubs, single washbasins and mirrors, toilets and indoor showers.

Jasmine and Gardenia Cottages
The Jasmine and Gardenia cottages are considered garden cottages as they have small, enclosed gardens for guests to enjoy their total privacy.

These two cottages are identical and have a number of wooden carved windows that open up onto the veranda area allowing the natural light to filter through. Featuring one large room that is cleverly segmented into workable areas, the king sized bed with beside tables and lamps, sofa, table and chairs, writing desk and chair are all easily accessible.

The cottages have AC’s and wardrobes that provide sufficient hanging and folding space. The en-suite bathrooms feature indoor showers, toilets, single washbasins and mirrors.

The verandas have a number of chairs to sit and enjoy the sounds of nature and beautiful tropical garden.

Joglo (Bougainvillea)
The Joglo better known as Bougainvillea is a white washed building. This building is a good size and contains two rooms, a lounge/dining area and one bedroom.

This room is quite large and to one side has a two-seater rattan sofa and two single chairs. A TV sits on a cabinet flanked by standard lamps on either side. On the other side of the room is a wooden dining table with 6 black rattan chairs.

The bedroom features a king size canopy bed and a daybed to sit or lounge upon. A wardrobe is located in the room and an en-suite bathroom with indoor toilet, shower, washbasin and mirror compliment this warm and comfortable accommodation.

Restaurant- Lobby
As you alight from your vehicle or bike you enter a Joglo style building to the left with stone statues welcoming the visitor. Ornate carved doors and panels and an antique ceiling, showcase the beautiful artwork of Indonesia.

Two wooden sofas facing each other, dressed with white cushions make it a comfortable place to register on your arrival or sit down anytime of the day or night. A number of tables with marble tops are available for diners to feast or the venue can be used to accommodate meetings and corporate incentive gatherings.

Breakfast is included in the accommodation price however if you desire lunch or dinner, both can be arranged. Enjoy sumptuous meals in the restaurant or a chef can cook you meals and you can enjoy them in a private setting. Swimming Pool
The swimming pool is suitable for those energetic enough to want to do laps. It measures 18×5 m and has a wooden deck on one side. Overlooking tropical gardens and lush cascading rice fields, this setting looks magical at dusk when the lights are turned on. An outdoor shower is located to the right of the 6 sun lounges, available for guests to use while basking in the sun, and umbrellas are close by if it gets too hot. The pool cascades over a wall to form a water feature for the nearby restaurant.

Spa
Step onto stone boulders to cross the water that leads you into a small carved door. As you enter the spa you will see in one corner, two comfortable rattan chairs with white cushions and two foot washing basins on the floor.

Two massage beds are opposite the chairs and couples can be massaged at one time, while listening to the soft, mediative sounds of nature from the stereo located on a white washed cabinet.

In the bathroom, two basins and a large terrazzo bath, big enough to hold two are located opposite one another. Alternatively if you do not desire a bath then one can experience the outdoor shower.

Library
Housed in an old Joglo, open to the prevailing winds, you immediately feel at home and want to meditate or curl up with a book in this stunning settling.

A large Buddha based at the top of the pathway casts its eye over this building and makes it one where you feel totally relaxed, enjoying the amazing view of the rice paddies, pool and gardens. Jati said geographically, the land suitable for coffee cultivation in Kintamani amounted to 12,000 hectares. The land is located in Bangli regency, the northern part of Badung regency, and in Buleleng regency.

Out of the 12,000 hectares of land, only 7,000 hectares have so far been cultivated.

“Of the 7,000 hectares, 4,000 hectares have produced coffee, while the remaining 3,000 hectares is still in the early phase of cultivation,” Jati said.

The total production of Kintamani coffee reached 20,000 tons of unprocessed coffee beans per year. Limited processing facilities have hampered the farmers on developing the commodity, thus only a few farmers are able to produce ready-to-serve coffee.

Only 2,000 tons out of 20,000 tons of coffee beans could be processed into an intermediate product.

Jati said out of 65 subak (farmer groups), only 22 own processing facilities. However, there are only five advanced processing facilities that are able to produce ready-to-serve coffee.

“Most of the processing facilities are still incomplete. We only have some parts for the facilities and need more complete equipment, but we can’t afford it.”

Therefore, most farmers are only able to market intermediate products, which still have to be processed further to produce ready-to-serve coffee.

Many of the exported products are coffee beans. In November, the amount of exported coffee beans reached 18 tons, worth Rp 1.2 billion.

The coffee beans are exported to South Korea, the US, Australia,
Japan and France.

Besides the problems with facilities, the farmers also lack the capability to market their products, thus most of the marketing is carried out by third parties. “We are facing difficulties in marketing,” Jati said.

“What puts us in a more difficult situation is that most people here already have coffee plantations, so it is impossible to market the product locally since they can serve coffee from their own plantations.”

He hoped the local administration would help market their products by asking hotels to serve Kintamani coffee at various national and international events in Bali.

Governor Pastika said the administration was ready to provide processing facilities to the farmers, but could not yet give a precise time line.

“It would be better for the farmers to have more processing facilities. This would offer them added value,” Pastika said.

“Farmers can earn more benefits if they are able to produce fully finished products, instead of unprocessed ones.”
